Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court has requested the appointment of 200 judicial officers, with 100 from each of the High Courts of Odisha and Jharkhand, to enhance the team already tasked with the review of voters’ documents categorized under “logical discrepancy”.
This initiative emerged from a high-level meeting led by Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul.
Key attendees included West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, Acting Director General of Police Peeyush Pandey, Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar, and Special Roll Observer for West Bengal Subrata Gupta.
It is noteworthy that on February 24, a division bench of the Supreme Court authorized the deployment of judicial officers from the High Courts of Jharkhand and Odisha to expedite the resolution of voter claims and objections linked to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
During the meeting chaired by the Chief Justice, it was confirmed that the final count of “logical discrepancy” cases, as of midnight on February 21, would be considered definitive for adjudication.
A total of 532 judicial officers from various courts in West Bengal have already been appointed, with 273 currently involved in the adjudication process.
The addition of 200 more judicial officers from the High Courts of Odisha and Jharkhand is anticipated to significantly accelerate the adjudication of voters’ documents.
The final voters’ list for West Bengal, excluding cases under “logical discrepancy” pending judicial review, will be published, with supplementary lists to follow based on the adjudication’s progress.
Judicial officers are required to submit daily updates on the adjudication process to the Calcutta High Court to ensure the process is completed on time.
