Kolkata, March 19 (NationPress) The Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, is set to lead an important meeting on Thursday concerning the release of the initial supplementary list of voters earmarked for judicial adjudication, classified under the category of 'logical discrepancy'.
This initial supplementary list is anticipated to be released on Friday, and Justice Paul's meeting is aimed at conducting a final review of the judicial adjudication progress achieved thus far.
Attendees at the meeting will include 732 judicial officers engaged in the adjudication process, with 100 officers each from the neighboring states of Odisha and Jharkhand, as well as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal and his supporting staff.
“The meeting's purpose also includes assessing the law and order situation in West Bengal prior to the release of the first supplementary list, amid concerns of potential unrest in various areas following its publication,” revealed a source from the CEO’s office.
The final voters’ list in West Bengal, excluding the 60 lakh cases sent for judicial adjudication, was made public on February 28. It was decided that supplementary lists would be issued periodically depending on the progress of the adjudication process.
Of the 60 lakh voters whose cases are under review, the adjudication process for 23.30 lakh voters had been finalized by Wednesday night.
Among these 23.30 lakh cases, approximately eight lakh voters have been marked as excludable, indicating that more than 34 percent of those whose adjudication has concluded have been deemed excludable by the judicial officers.
The two-phase elections in West Bengal are scheduled for April 23 and April 29. The first phase will cover 152 Assembly constituencies, while the second phase will include 142 constituencies.
Currently, it has been agreed that around 2,300 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel will be deployed for both phases. An advance deployment of 480 companies of CAPF for area monitoring has already been executed.
