Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 4 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has secured the custody of Abdul Alim Molla, who has been apprehended concerning the attempted murder of Bhola Ghosh, a crucial witness in the case associated with Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, as reported by sources from the central investigative agency.
Last month, Bhola Ghosh was involved in a tragic road accident near the Boyarmari petrol pump in the North 24 Parganas district. The incident claimed the lives of his son and the driver, who died instantly following a head-on collision with a truck. This has led to suspicions regarding whether the accident was a premeditated attempt to assassinate Bhola Ghosh.
The police apprehended Abdul Alim Molla, the truck driver and the primary suspect in the case, related to the incident. The CBI subsequently sought a court order in Basirhat to obtain his custody, which was granted.
According to information from the central agency, in 2024, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials attempted to conduct a search at Sheikh Shahjahan’s residence in relation to a ration distribution scam. During this operation, the officers were allegedly attacked by Shahjahan's supporters.
The Calcutta High Court later instructed the CBI to investigate the matter. Throughout the investigation, the agency summoned Alim Molla several times and issued notices; however, he reportedly did not respond.
The CBI contends that Alim Molla is a close ally of Sheikh Shahjahan and was directly involved in the attack on ED officials. It is believed that the agency's decision to detain him was to facilitate further questioning regarding this incident.
Investigators also suspect that Alim Molla played a significant role in the alleged conspiracy to murder Bhola Ghosh. Bholanath Ghosh is a key witness in the case filed by the CBI against Sheikh Shahjahan, noted as a prominent figure in the Sandeshkhali region of North 24 Parganas.
The incident occurred in December when Bholanath Ghosh was on his way to court for official matters, accompanied by his younger son and the driver. Near the Boyarmari petrol pump, their vehicle collided head-on with a truck, leading to the deaths of both the son and the driver.
Following the incident, the police apprehended several individuals believed to be connected to Sheikh Shahjahan as part of the ongoing investigation.
