Kolkata, Dec 13 (NationPress) On Saturday, authorities apprehended an individual linked to the enigmatic passing of Satyajit Ghosh, the younger son of Bhola Ghosh, who serves as a pivotal witness in a criminal case against the suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan from Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The suspect, identified as Ruhul Kuddus Sheikh, was taken into custody by the Basirhat police early Saturday morning and is set to be presented in a district court in North 24 Parganas later today. A senior police official stated that the public prosecutor will request police custody for him.
Interestingly, Ruhul is not among the eight individuals cited in the complaint lodged by Bhola Ghosh at the Nazat police station, which is under the Basirhat district police jurisdiction. In his complaint, Ghosh alleged that eight individuals had orchestrated the road accident, suggesting that he was the intended victim due to his role as a key witness against Shahjahan, who has been labeled a local terror in Sandeshkhali.
Satyajit Ghosh tragically lost his life on Wednesday when a truck collided with the vehicle he was in, alongside his father, Bhola Ghosh, as they were heading to the district court for Bhola's testimony against Shahjahan. While Bhola narrowly escaped, the driver, Shahnur Molla, also perished in the crash.
Bhola Ghosh insists that the truck incident was a deliberate attempt on his life rather than that of his son. He remarked, “I was the target because I am one of the crucial witnesses against Shahjahan,” he stated earlier.
In light of Ruhul's arrest, the Ghosh family has accused the Basirhat police of failing to conduct a thorough investigation. They claim that all eight individuals listed in the complaint are close allies of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Notably, the first two names mentioned in the complaint are those of Sheikh Shahjahan and his wife, Taslima Bibi.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation has recently provided the Calcutta High Court with details of approximately 3,000 individual complaints against Shahjahan. These complaints primarily pertain to the assault on Enforcement Directorate officials and accompanying Central Armed Police Force personnel outside Shahjahan’s residence in Sandeshkhali last year.
Reports indicate that Shahjahan’s associates allegedly attacked the ED team and CAPF personnel following an attempted raid at his home, which was part of an investigation into a massive public distribution system scam in the state.
Other allegations against Shahjahan include land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, illegal transformation of agricultural land into pisciculture farms by flooding fields with saline water, and the sexual exploitation of local women.
