Was Alim Molla, the Truck Driver in the Sandeshkhali Accident, Arrested?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 22 (NationPress) Alim Molla, the driver of the truck involved in the tragic road accident that led to the death of Satyajit Ghosh, the younger son of Bhola Ghosh, a crucial witness in a case against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan of Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has been apprehended by the West Bengal Police on Monday.
A police insider revealed that Molla was taken into custody early in the morning from a concealed location within the district. However, authorities did not disclose any further information, including the specific site of his arrest.
He is slated to be presented in a district court later today, where the public prosecutor will request his police remand.
This marks the fifth arrest in this case, and it is also the second arrest among the ten individuals identified as suspects by witness Bhola Ghosh earlier this month at the Nazat Police Station. The other three individuals apprehended were not named in the complaint submitted by Bhola Ghosh.
Satyajit Ghosh tragically lost his life on December 10, after a truck collided with the vehicle in which he and his father were traveling to the district court to provide testimony against Shahjahan. Bhola Ghosh narrowly survived, while the driver of their vehicle, Shahnur Molla, succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.
Bhola Ghosh has consistently asserted that he was the intended target of the attack, not his son. “I was the target because I am a primary witness against Shahjahan,” he has stated previously.
He further alleged that the 16-wheeler truck that struck their vehicle was operated by Alim Molla.
Initially, it was reported that the vehicle had a direct collision with the truck coming from the opposite direction. However, Bhola Ghosh later clarified that the truck had rammed into their vehicle several times from behind, even pushing it a considerable distance before it fell into a roadside water body along the Basanti Highways.
Subsequently, several eyewitnesses to the incident corroborated Bhola Ghosh's account.
