Kolkata, Dec 10 (NationPress) Satyajit Ghosh, the son of Bhola Ghosh, a crucial witness against the suspended Trinamool Congress leader from Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas, Sheikh Shahjahan, tragically lost his life in a vehicular accident on Wednesday while on his way to the court to have his father's statements officially recorded.

The driver, Shahnur Molla, who was also in the vehicle, perished in the crash, while Bhola Ghosh narrowly escaped serious injury. The incident occurred on the Basanti Highway when a truck collided head-on with their car.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle to plunge into a roadside ditch, resulting in the immediate deaths of Satyajit Ghosh and Shahnur Molla.

Both Bhola Ghosh and his elder son, Biswajit Ghosh, suspect that this was not merely an accident. “The way the truck struck our car raises suspicions that the intention was to eliminate me as a witness in this case. I lost consciousness briefly after the crash. Everything appears to be premeditated. I urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation,” he stated.

Biswajit Ghosh expressed his belief that two associates of Sheikh Shahjahan, Moslem Khan and Sabita Roy, orchestrated this deadly incident to prevent his father from testifying.

The Basirhat Police District has initiated inquiries into the incident but reported that as of Wednesday afternoon, they had not received any formal complaints alleging foul play.

Amit Malviya, the Chief of the BJP's Information Technology Cell and the party's central observer for West Bengal, commented on the situation through social media.

“This reflects the deteriorating law-and-order conditions in West Bengal under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A key witness in the Sheikh Shahjahan case has been severely injured in a tragic accident in Sandeshkhali, and two lives were lost in this incident. The collision occurred around 7 a.m. this morning near Najat in Sandeshkhali, just as Bhola Ghosh was en route to testify,” Malviya's statement read.

“It seems evident that Shahjahan is systematically eliminating witnesses while incarcerated. Can we doubt that he has the backing of Mamata Banerjee?” Malviya added.

Sheikh Shahjahan is currently in judicial custody facing multiple serious charges, including orchestrating an attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali last year, land grabbing, and the sexual exploitation of local women.

Point of View

It is vital to approach this incident with a balanced perspective. The tragic loss of life raises crucial questions about the safety of witnesses in high-stakes legal battles. It is essential for the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice and restore public confidence in the legal system.
