Is Another Trinamool Activist Arrested in the Mysterious Death of Sandeshkhali Witness’s Son?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 13 (NationPress) On Saturday, the police apprehended a second individual in relation to the enigmatic demise of Satyajit Ghosh, the younger son of Bhola Ghosh, who serves as a crucial witness in a criminal case against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan from Sandeshkhali, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The individual in custody has been identified as Uttam Sardar, also known as Sushanta, a Trinamool Congress activist from Sandeshkhali and a former close aide of Shahjahan.
Previously, he was arrested for his involvement in an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer and accompanying Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel outside Shahjahan’s residence in January of last year.
Sardar marks the second arrest made by the Basirhat district police concerning the incident that resulted in the death of the witness’s son.
Earlier that day, a man named Ruhul Kuddus Sheikh was also detained in connection with the investigation.
However, neither Sardar nor Ruhul are listed among the eight individuals cited in a complaint lodged earlier this week by Bhola Ghosh at the Nazat police station, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Basirhat district police.
In his complaint, Ghosh accused eight individuals of conspiring to orchestrate a road accident, alleging that he was the primary target due to his role as a key witness against Shahjahan, who is often referred to locally as the terror of Sandeshkhali. The first two names mentioned in the complaint are those of Sheikh Shahjahan and his spouse, Taslima Bibi.
Following the arrests of Sardar and Ruhul, Ghosh expressed concerns that the Basirhat police were not conducting an adequate investigation.
Satyajit Ghosh tragically passed away on Wednesday when a truck collided with the vehicle he was in, along with his father Bhola Ghosh, as they were en route to the district court for Bhola’s testimony against Shahjahan.
Bhola narrowly escaped harm, while the vehicle's driver, Shahnur Molla, also lost his life in the mishap.
Bhola Ghosh has asserted that the truck incident was intended for him, not his son. “I was the target because I am one of the main witnesses against Shahjahan,” he stated earlier.
