Kolkata, Dec 14 (NationPress) On Sunday evening, police apprehended an additional suspect tied to the enigmatic death of Satyajit Ghosh, the younger son of Bhola Ghosh, a pivotal witness in a criminal case against the suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan from Sandeshkhali, located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The individual arrested has been recognized as Golam Hossian Mollah, the truck cleaner that reportedly collided with the vehicle transporting Bhola Ghosh and his son last week. They were en route to a district court where Bhola Ghosh was set to deliver his testimony against Shahjahan.
Despite the arrest, police officials have yet to definitively determine if Golam Hossian Mollah was actually in the truck at the time of the incident involving the witness and his son.
This marks the third arrest in this ongoing investigation. On Saturday, authorities detained two other suspects—Uttam Sardar alias Sushanta, a Trinamool Congress supporter from Sandeshkhali and a previous ally of Sheikh Shahjahan, and Ruhul Kuddus Sheikh.
Intriguingly, none of the three arrested individuals are named among the eight individuals identified in a complaint lodged earlier this week by Bhola Ghosh at the Nazat police station, which operates under the Basirhat district police.
In his grievance, Bhola Ghosh claimed that eight individuals had plotted to orchestrate the road accident, alleging that he was the primary target due to his role as a critical witness against Shahjahan, deemed the local menace of Sandeshkhali. The first two names in the complaint include Sheikh Shahjahan and his spouse, Taslima Bibi.
Following the apprehension of Golam Hossian Mollah, Bhola Ghosh voiced concerns regarding the investigation's trajectory, expressing his confusion about “what kind of game” the state police were playing.
Satyajit Ghosh tragically passed away on Wednesday after a truck collided with their vehicle while he was accompanying his father to the district court to provide his statement against Shahjahan. Bhola Ghosh narrowly escaped with his life, although the driver of their vehicle, Shahnur Molla, also succumbed to injuries from the crash.
Bhola Ghosh has consistently asserted that the attack was aimed at him rather than his son. “I was the target because I am one of the main witnesses against Shahjahan,” he previously stated.
