New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) In a moment of great pride for India's leading investigative agency, numerous personnel from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have been acknowledged for their exemplary service as part of the nationwide awards declared on the eve of Republic Day 2026.
A staggering 982 personnel across various sectors, including police, fire services, home guard, civil defence, and correctional services, have been honoured with gallantry and distinguished service medals. An official government statement released on Sunday (January 25) indicated that 125 individuals will be decorated with the Medal for Gallantry, comprising 121 from different police departments and four from fire services.
This commendation recognises exceptional acts of bravery—whether in daring rescues of life and property or significant efforts to thwart crime and apprehend criminals—with the level of danger carefully considered against the officer's responsibilities.
The gallantry medals highlight service in high-risk areas, with 45 medals awarded to personnel operating in Jammu and Kashmir, 35 in regions affected by Left Wing Extremism, five in the Northeast, and 40 in other regions across the country.
Among the forces, the Jammu and Kashmir Police topped the list with 33 gallantry medals, followed closely by Maharashtra Police with 31, Uttar Pradesh Police with 18, and Delhi Police with 14.
The Central Reserve Police Force was the only Central Armed Police Force to receive 12 such awards.
In addition, 101 personnel were awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service for their exceptional and outstanding contributions, including 89 from police services, five from fire services, three from civil defence and home guard, and four from correctional services.
The Police Medal for Meritorious Service, awarded for dedicated and resourceful performance, was conferred to a multitude of recipients, primarily from police services, along with recognitions for fire, civil defence, home guard, and correctional services.
Among the notable CBI honorees, the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to Chandrasekar Venupillai IPS, Head of Zone (Delhi Zone), New Delhi; Amit Srivastava, Superintendent of Police (Admin), Head Office, New Delhi; Mukesh Sharma, additional superintendent of police, SC-III, New Delhi; Pramod Kumar Yati, sub inspector, SU, Kolkata; Chaman Lal, assistant sub inspector, academy, Ghaziabad; and Ramu Golla, head constable, ACB, Hyderabad.
