Srinagar, Aug 14 (NationPress) On this Independence Day 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir Police emerged as the leading recipient of Gallantry Medals in India, as revealed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). A remarkable 127 personnel were honored for their outstanding acts of courage.
This year, out of a total of 233 Gallantry Medals awarded, 152 security personnel from the union territory were recognized for their valor.
The MHA disclosed that the J&K Police topped the chart with 127 awards, followed closely by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and other security agencies.
In total, 1,090 personnel from various sectors, including police, fire services, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services, received Gallantry and Service Medals this year.
This includes 233 Gallantry Medals (GM), 99 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM).
Among the awardees, 54 personnel are from areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, 152 from J&K, three from the Northeast, and 24 from other regions.
Notably, Sujit Kumar, IGP (Security & Crime) of J&K, received the President’s police medal for gallantry, recognizing his exceptional courage, bravery, and quick thinking.
The J&K Police have been at the forefront of combatting armed violence instigated by Pakistan since 1990.
