New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) On January 25, President Droupadi Murmu approved Gallantry awards for 93 personnel from the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces, including 11 posthumous awards, as announced by an official.
The awards comprise two Kirti Chakras (one posthumous), 14 Shaurya Chakras (three posthumous), one Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry), 66 Sena Medals (seven posthumous), two Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry), and eight Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry), according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.
In addition, the President sanctioned a total of 305 defence decorations for Armed Forces personnel and others. These include 30 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, five Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, 57 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, 10 Yudh Seva Medals, one Bar to Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), 43 Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), eight Nao Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), 15 Vayu Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), four Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal, and 132 Vishisht Seva Medals, as detailed by the statement.
The Republic Day is commemorated on January 26 annually, marking the adoption of the nation’s Constitution in 1950, more than two years post India’s Independence on August 15, 1947.
The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on November 26, 1949, and came into force on January 26, 1950.
The Republic Day celebrations feature parades, speeches, cultural events, and ceremonies across the nation, including in the national capital.
On the eve of Republic Day, the President addresses the nation. On this occasion, President Murmu commended the tireless contributions of farmers, laborers, scientists, and the youth towards the nation's progress, which is starting to shape global economic trends.
President Murmu acknowledged the hard work of farmers in achieving food self-sufficiency for the country and praised laborers for their relentless efforts in enhancing infrastructure and the manufacturing sector.
“Thanks to their stellar contributions, India’s economy is now a significant influencer of global economic trends,” she stated.
She also recognized the remarkable advancements made by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in space exploration.
“This month, ISRO made the nation proud again with a successful space docking experiment, making India the fourth country globally with this capability,” President Murmu noted.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the aspirations of the youth, especially young women, are pivotal for shaping the ‘India of tomorrow’.
“We are advancing into the future with pride. The future hinges on our youth, particularly young women. Their aspirations are shaping the India of tomorrow as we approach the centenary of our Independence,” she remarked.
She highlighted the success of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, a project that resonates with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.
“Last year, we launched the unique campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ on World Environment Day, honoring the nurturing essence of our mothers and nature. The target of planting 80 crore seedlings was achieved ahead of schedule,” she pointed out.
President Murmu called on citizens to reaffirm their commitment to realizing the dreams of Gandhi Ji.
“His principles of truth and non-violence are timeless and vital for the world. He taught us that rights and duties are two sides of the same coin – indeed, the true source of rights is duty,” she stated.
In her address on the eve of the 76th Republic Day, she also congratulated the citizens on the momentous day that marked the birth of the Constitution of India.
