Guwahati, Nov 25 (NationPress) The Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi called on the state government to disclose the identity of the “true mastermind” in the investigation concerning singer Zubeen Garg, claiming that significant information is being kept from the public.
While addressing the media at Bishwanath Chariali, Gogoi pointed to names mentioned in the Assam Assembly and questioned who was supposedly orchestrating those involved.
He asserted that the government has not provided adequate transparency, leading many, particularly in rural regions, to doubt that justice will be served.
“The government has mentioned specific individuals, but who is the mastermind behind this? That information remains undisclosed. Instead of fostering transparency, various narratives are creating confusion,” Gogoi stated.
He further criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for failing to keep his previous commitment to publicize the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report.
According to Gogoi, the Chief Minister had indicated that findings would be shared at an earlier date, but this has yet to happen. He claimed that the government's handling of the situation has caused embarrassment even within its political ranks.
The Congress leader also suggested that a larger conspiracy is in play to sway the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. He alleged that recent administrative measures were designed to help the ruling party maintain its grip on power.
Gogoi mentioned that the Congress has bolstered its Block Level Agents and booth-level monitoring teams to promote transparency in the electoral process.
“To protect his position, the Chief Minister is attempting to import voters from other states and add their names to Assam’s voter list. This poses a threat to the future of democracy in Assam,” he alleged, urging citizens and political factions to be vigilant against any electoral manipulation.
Meanwhile, while speaking to party workers, former APCC president Ripun Bora accused the ruling BJP of failing to deliver substantial development over the past decade, while another former state Congress chief Bhupen Bora referenced Assam’s cultural figures, stating that unity and harmony in the state must be preserved at all costs.
He emphasized that the people of Assam would not permit divisive forces to undermine the state's social and democratic integrity.
