Guwahati, Sep 25 (NationPress) Following the passing of Assam’s cherished cultural figure and renowned singer Zubeen Garg, the state administration has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation into the events surrounding his death.
During a high-level review meeting chaired by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alongside the Director General of Police, senior CID officials, and the Chief Secretary on Wednesday, it was disclosed that the SIT will include some of the most capable officers of Assam Police and will operate independently with utmost professional integrity.
He assured the residents of Assam that “no stone will be left unturned” in the investigation.
The SIT will be led by Special DGP (CID) M.P. Gupta, with Rosie Kalita, SSP (CM Vigilance), designated as the Chief Investigating Officer.
Several senior officers, including Additional SPs, Deputy SPs, Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors from CID and various districts, have been appointed as Additional and Assistant Investigating Officers.
All members of the SIT will remain assigned to the team until the investigation concludes.
This inquiry will center on CID Police Station Case No. 18/2025, filed under sections 61(2)/105/106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Officials indicated that the SIT is required to adhere to strict timelines and maintain transparency throughout the process.
In statements to the press, CM Sarma stated, “Regarding the untimely death of our beloved Zubeen Garg, no one will be spared. The SIT has been granted full autonomy to investigate and will operate with the highest level of professionalism.”
He further disclosed that viscera samples from the late artist would be sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL), New Delhi, for advanced forensic examination.
The Chief Minister’s announcement comes amid widespread public sentiment and speculation following Garg’s sudden demise.
Fans across Assam have been vocally advocating for a fair and exhaustive investigation, and the establishment of the SIT is perceived as a significant measure by the government to uphold accountability and provide clarity. The Assam Police emphasized in a statement that the officers chosen for this investigation were meticulously selected and would perform their duties diligently until the case reaches a conclusion.
The passing of Zubeen Garg, celebrated not only as a singer but also as an actor, composer, and cultural ambassador of Assam, has created a profound void in the state’s cultural landscape.
The SIT investigation, which is being closely monitored by the public, is anticipated to be pivotal in addressing lingering questions and ensuring justice.
