Should the CBI Investigate the Death of a Bihar NEET Aspirant Under Court Supervision?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Jan 31 (NationPress) Following the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Purnea Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, better known as Pappu Yadav, has called for the CBI to conduct an investigation into the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant under the oversight of either a Supreme Court or High Court judge.
Speaking at a press conference in Purnea on Saturday, Yadav criticized the Bihar Police and CID, stating that the case's transfer to the CBI highlights their ineffectiveness.
“The CBI's involvement clearly indicates the shortcomings of the Bihar Police and CID in resolving this matter. While I support the decision to involve the CBI, it’s imperative that the investigation is carried out under the supervision of a Supreme Court or High Court judge,” Yadav asserted.
He expressed his concern for the safety of the victim's family, having already addressed the issue in the Lok Sabha.
“I have serious concerns that the Bihar Police might wrongfully implicate family members of the deceased, or worse, they could be harmed. The victim’s mother has echoed these fears. I urge the Bihar government and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to ensure the family receives immediate protection,” he warned.
Pappu Yadav made grave allegations, claiming to possess information that points to a criminal conspiracy linked to the case.
“I have received information suggesting that owners of hostels and hospitals may have contracted for a killing. I am unaware of the target, but I implore the Bihar government to guarantee the safety of the victim's family at all costs. These individuals may go to extreme measures,” he indicated.
Additionally, he commended Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for visiting Jehanabad to meet the victim’s family.
“I commend Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for his visit to Jehanabad to console the family. I urge him to prioritize their safety. I have personally discussed this with him, and apart from him, I have not observed any other leaders, including Giriraj Singh, taking this matter seriously,” Yadav noted.
Expressing his worries regarding women's safety in the region, Yadav concluded, “I firmly believe that girls are not safe under this administration. We urgently need to advocate for the protection of our sisters and daughters.”
The NEET aspirant was discovered unconscious in her hostel room on January 6, later succumbing to her injuries at a private hospital on January 11.
Initially, the Patna SSP dismissed the possibility of sexual assault, but subsequent post-mortem and forensic reports contradicted that assessment.
Both reports indicated that sexual assault could not be excluded as a possibility.
The forensic report further confirmed the presence of male sperm on the deceased's clothing.
Though the Patna Police formed a high-level SIT under an IG-rank officer to investigate, progress has been minimal. The SIT has obtained blood samples from over 15 individuals, including family members of the deceased.
The case has now been assigned to the CBI, amidst rising political pressures for a court-monitored investigation to guarantee transparency and justice.
