Kolkata, March 23 (NationPress) In light of previous clashes during Ram Navami processions across West Bengal, the Kolkata Police have opted to implement comprehensive CCTV coverage along the procession routes this year on April 6.

As per instructions from the city police headquarters, relevant police stations are to conduct an immediate assessment of the functionality of the existing CCTV cameras along these routes.

The reports submitted by the police stations, according to a source within the city police, must outline the operational status of the CCTV systems already deployed in these areas.

“Any non-functional cameras identified along the routes need to be promptly repaired or replaced. Furthermore, the officers-in-charge must report to the commissioner’s office regarding any need for additional CCTV installations on these routes,” the insider noted.

Additionally, police personnel accompanying the processions will be required to use body cameras to ensure thorough monitoring and documentation of the events from start to finish.

City police sources indicate that authorities are particularly vigilant regarding the Ram Navami processions this year, especially due to the organizers' intent to attract larger crowds.

The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, previously stated that the state BJP and its affiliates plan to hold at least 2,000 processions for Ram Navami this year.

Adhikari also expressed that participation in the rallies is expected to double compared to last year.

"This year's Ram Navami will be celebrated on a grand scale. I will be present on the streets that day. Last year, approximately 50 lakh Hindus participated in rallies. There were 1,000 rallies last year; this year, we anticipate 2,000 rallies with around one crore Hindus joining in," he stated.
