Hyderabad, Jan 19 (NationPress) K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has vehemently criticized the alleged intentional delay and biased tactics of the BJP-led Central Government regarding the approval of a Mega Power Loom Cluster for Sircilla, branding it as a clear instance of political vendetta against Telangana and its weaving community.
The former minister, representing Sircilla in the State Assembly, penned a strongly-worded letter to Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, highlighting the Centre's ongoing disregard despite Sircilla meeting all eligibility criteria under the Comprehensive Powerloom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS).
Rama Rao emphasized that the request for a Mega Power Loom Cluster for Sircilla is longstanding, having been unresolved for more than a decade. He noted that he has sent numerous letters and held several personal discussions with Union Ministers throughout the past 12 years.
“Despite approaching Central Ministers nearly ten times and providing comprehensive reports, the Centre has yet to deliver a favorable outcome. What is the underlying reason for sidelining Sircilla’s proposal?” he questioned.
He referred to his discussions with leaders from the late Arun Jaitley to Smriti Irani, asserting that even Central teams have acknowledged Sircilla’s eligibility under the CPCDS.
“If merit is not the issue, then why this ongoing neglect? Is Telangana being penalized for political motives?” he queried, suggesting that the Centre's actions represent blatant discrimination against Telangana's weavers.
Describing Sircilla as the cornerstone of Telangana’s textile industry, Rama Rao pointed out that the region hosts over 30,000 power looms, sustaining thousands of families. He criticized the Centre for approving Mega Clusters for areas in other States with significantly lower capacities and workforce, while denying Sircilla the same despite its established potential. “The issue is not a lack of merit; it stems from the BJP’s political antagonism towards Telangana,” he asserted.
Rama Rao further elaborated that under the guidance of former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Telangana Government had completed all necessary groundwork for the Mega Cluster, including land allocation, uninterrupted power and water supply, single-window clearances, and State-level incentives.
“Keeping the proposal pending without providing any technical or financial justification is nothing short of administrative arrogance,” he stated.
Rama Rao remarked that the BJP Government loudly promotes 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', yet neglects one of the country’s most capable textile hubs.
“This demonstrates the BJP’s hypocrisy and lack of genuine commitment. Their governance is filled with slogans but lacks real solutions,” he commented.
He warned that the Centre’s procrastination is causing severe human and economic repercussions for Sircilla’s weavers.
“The handloom sector is facing a renewed crisis, with reports of weavers’ suicides emerging once again. In such dire circumstances, the Centre’s inaction is tantamount to assaulting the very livelihoods of weavers,” he stated.
He accused BJP MPs and Union Ministers from Telangana of failing to advocate for the State’s interests. “Despite Telangana electing eight BJP MPs and having representation in the Union Cabinet, they have not even expressed the distress of Sircilla’s weavers. They have been reduced to mere ceremonial figures,” he claimed. “BJP leaders exploit Telangana solely for electoral gains, not for securing development or funding,” he added.
He insisted that the upcoming Union Budget must officially announce the Sircilla Mega Power Loom Cluster, putting an end to a decade-long injustice. He urged the Union Government to act beyond political rivalry, uphold the principles of cooperative federalism, and make an immediate, favorable decision for the benefit of Telangana’s weavers.
