Bhopal, Jan 22 (NationPress) The tableau representing Madhya Pradesh at the Republic Day Parade will focus on the theme 'Cheetah: The Pride of India', as announced by an official on Wednesday.

This tableau will highlight the remarkable reintroduction of Cheetahs to Madhya Pradesh, as they had been extinct in India for 70 years. Various governments have been actively working to restore the Cheetah population in the country.

The showcase illustrates the successful reintroduction of Cheetahs in India.

Prominently featured are a pair of adult cheetahs from Kuno National Park alongside their cubs born in this sanctuary. The centerpiece of the tableau is the flowing Kuno River, encircled by lush forest cover and the natural habitat of the national park, illustrating wildlife such as deer, monkeys, birds, and cheetahs coexisting in harmony.

This tableau exemplifies Kuno Sanctuary as a model for biodiversity with the rising population of cheetahs.

In the background, under a tree, 'Cheetah Mitras' (Cheetah Friends) are seen educating local residents about cheetah conservation efforts.

The concluding section of the tableau portrays forest personnel monitoring the cheetahs from a watchtower, playing a vital role in the success of the Cheetah Project.

On either side of the tableau, LED panels present a film centered on Cheetahs in Kuno National Park. Moreover, dance troupes from the Sheopur district perform the traditional 'Lahangi' dance of the Sahariya tribe.

The Kuno National Sanctuary, situated along the banks of the Kuno River in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh, has emerged as a new habitat for Cheetahs in India.

This sanctuary offers an ideal diet and natural surroundings for the Cheetahs. Following the successful reintroduction initiative, a total of 24 cheetahs, including adults and cubs, now roam freely within the Kuno Sanctuary.

The first group of eight cheetahs, transported from Namibia, was released at Kuno by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday, September 17, 2022, while the second group of 12 cheetahs arrived from South Africa on February 18, 2023.

Reports indicate that the third batch of 18 cheetahs, slated for relocation from South Africa to Madhya Pradesh in February 2025, may face delays as authorities await quarterly progress updates on the Cheetahs.

The MoU, signed on January 17, 2022, stipulates that the Indian government must provide quarterly progress reports regarding the Cheetahs relocated from South Africa.

The upcoming batch of Cheetahs is anticipated to be moved to Kuno National Park in Sheopur and Gandhi Sagar in Mandsaur.
