Chennai, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu government is set to organize a significant International Vallalar Conference in Chennai later this year, anticipated to occur in either November or December. This event will gather over 10,000 Sanmarga devotees, including nearly 2,000 women.
The announcement was made by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Minister P.K. Sekar Babu during the celebrations for the 203rd birth anniversary of Arutpragasa Vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar held at Vadalur in Cuddalore district on Sunday.
Minister Sekar Babu stated that the conference would provide a global platform to honor Vallalar's teachings on compassion, equality, and spiritual enlightenment.
“Sanmargis from all over India and abroad will come together in Chennai to pay tribute to Vallalar's everlasting message of kindness,” he said, following the hoisting of the Sanmarga flag at the Vadalur festivities.
Emphasizing the state's dedication to preserving Vallalar's legacy, Sekar Babu noted that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has allocated Rs 99.99 crore for the establishment of the Vallalar International Centre at Vadalur.
This long-anticipated project had encountered delays due to various legal issues related to land demarcation, but progress is now underway.
“Construction at the 'B' site has restarted following court approval based on the government’s report. The new facilities are expected to be ready for devotees by December,” the Minister confirmed.
He also mentioned that a comprehensive report on encroachments in the 'A' site area has been submitted to the court, with work to commence once judicial approval is granted.
“Justice will prevail, and all activities are being conducted with transparency and fairness,” he assured.
The Vallalar International Centre is envisioned to be a spiritual and cultural hub, featuring prayer halls, research areas, and facilities to support Sanmarga devotees globally.
Officials indicated that the project aims to reinforce Vallalar's message of love and service, as he was a proponent of feeding the poor and promoting universal brotherhood.
Since the DMK came to power in 2021, the government has recognized Vallalar's birth anniversary as “Benevolence Day” and has organized state-supported celebrations annually to promote his humanitarian ideals.
Sunday’s event saw participation from senior ministers M.R.K. Panneerselvam and C.V. Ganesan, along with Cuddalore District Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, as devotees gathered in large numbers to honor the 19th-century saint and social reformer.
