Raipur, Sep 20 (NationPress) After a prolonged period of 31 days of statewide demonstrations, the employees of the National Health Mission (NHM) in Chhattisgarh have officially decided to conclude their strike late on Friday night. This resolution came following a pivotal meeting with Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal.

The agreement was reached after extensive discussions and public concerns over the interruption of vital health services.

Over 16,000 NHM personnel participated in the strike, advocating for improved working conditions, equitable remuneration, and necessary policy reforms.

In a noteworthy turn of events, the Chhattisgarh government has agreed to fulfill four of the primary demands made by the employees. These concessions include a 5 percent salary increase retroactive to July 2023, 30 days of paid leave each year, enhanced transparency in annual performance assessments, and the introduction of cashless medical insurance coverage up to ₹5 lakh.

These agreements represent a significant advancement in addressing the longstanding issues faced by NHM staff, many of whom have been employed under contractual arrangements with minimal benefits.

To tackle the remaining demands, the government has proposed the establishment of a specialized committee. This body will examine matters related to grade pay assessment, compassionate appointments, and transfer regulations.

The committee is anticipated to provide its findings and recommendations within a three-month timeframe.

Health Minister Jaiswal, who engaged directly with representatives from the striking staff, commended their choice to return to work and underscored the government’s dedication to resolving all outstanding issues.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai publicly welcomed the conclusion of the strike. He reaffirmed the government’s position that every employee is viewed as part of the state’s extended family and that their legitimate requests will always be handled with care and respect.

“Public health is our utmost priority,” the Chief Minister stated on X. “I am optimistic that through the collaborative efforts of the government and the workforce, the residents of Chhattisgarh will gain access to superior health services. Together, we will steer the state towards a healthier and more promising future.”

The resolution of the strike has offered relief to thousands of patients and families who had been impacted by the service disruptions.

With NHM personnel returning to their roles, health facilities statewide are expected to restore normal operations, reinstating essential care and outreach initiatives that benefit some of the most at-risk communities in Chhattisgarh.
