According to the Block Medical Officer of Thandla, an initial group of 20–25 individuals was admitted to the hospital due to respiratory problems.
As a precaution, the Health Department conducted a comprehensive door-to-door survey, with additional individuals experiencing mild symptoms placed under observation.
At present, 49 patients are receiving treatment, all reported to be in stable condition.
The District Collector stated that a technical malfunction at the gas filtration facility led to the chlorine gas escape in the morning.
“Thanks to the rapid response from the administration and rescue teams, the situation has been stabilized. All impacted individuals are receiving appropriate medical care. A technical team is currently assessing the site, and the Health Department is conducting thorough surveys to ensure no one is overlooked,” he remarked.
Senior officials have confirmed that the leak has been contained, and there is no remaining risk to public safety. The plant has been temporarily shut down for a safety audit.
Local community members expressed their relief at the swift action taken by the administration but also called for a detailed investigation into the cause of the malfunction and the establishment of stricter safety measures at the facility.
The district administration has pledged full support to the affected families and has urged the public to stay calm.
