Bhopal, Feb 20 (NationPress) The newly appointed in-charge for the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Harish Choudhary, stated on Thursday that his primary focus will be on reviving the party in the state.

Choudhary, a leader from Rajasthan, mentioned that the Congress leadership has tasked him with responsibilities in Madhya Pradesh, and he will endeavor to meet the party's expectations.

"Madhya Pradesh boasts a rich cultural history, and I aim to understand the social and political landscape of the state. Re-establishing the party will be my foremost challenge," Choudhary informed the media.

This declaration came during his inaugural visit to Bhopal following his appointment as the MP Congress in-charge.

He was welcomed by Jitu Patwari, the state unit chief, and Umang Singhar, Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, at the party headquarters.

In response to IANS regarding his strategy to revive the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, Choudhary remarked, "I do not possess any quick-fix solutions, but I will strive to understand the dynamics of our state party leaders and implement the fundamental principles of Congress. This is the best I can offer."

Choudhary has planned an introductory meeting with state Congress leaders, including PCC chief Jitu Patwari and other senior officials at the party headquarters.

It is noteworthy that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Choudhary as the in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, succeeding Bhanwar Jitendra Singh.

Choudhary, a sitting Congress MLA from the Baytoo Assembly constituency in Rajasthan, is the fourth in-charge for the Madhya Pradesh unit of the party in the last three years.

Prior to Choudhary, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh was appointed as the in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Congress in December 2023, shortly after the party faced a significant defeat against the BJP in the Assembly elections.

Singh replaced Randeep Surjewala, who had led the MP Congress during the state Assembly elections.

Despite the efforts, the party managed to secure only 66 out of 230 Assembly seats, leading to his replacement along with former state unit chief Kamal Nath. It is important to note that before Surjewala, Jai Prakash Agarwal, a senior leader from Delhi, was assigned the role in September 2022, a year ahead of the state Assembly elections.

Agarwal, who replaced Mukul Vasnik as in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Congress, was succeeded by Surjewala.
