Bhopal, Feb 15 (NationPress) In a significant reshuffle, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has designated Harish Choudhary, a party leader from Rajasthan, as the new in-charge of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). This marks the fourth change in leadership within the party's state unit over the last three years.
Choudhary takes over from Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, who was appointed following the party's disappointing performance in the 2023 Assembly elections.
A sitting MLA from the Baytoo Assembly constituency in Rajasthan, Choudhary previously managed Punjab's affairs from November 2021 until December 2023. He has also served as the revenue minister in the Congress-led government under former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Between 2014 and 2019, Choudhary held the position of national secretary at the AICC.
Upon his appointment for Madhya Pradesh, the state Congress president Jitu Patwari and various other leaders extended their congratulations via social media, emphasizing that his expertise will be instrumental in revitalizing the party's presence in the region.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Harish Choudhary on being appointed in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee. Your ground-level experience will elevate the ideology of Congress in the state,” stated Jitu Patwari.
Before Choudhary, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, an MP from Alwar (Rajasthan), was appointed to lead the Madhya Pradesh Congress in December 2023, shortly after the party faced a significant defeat to the BJP in the Assembly elections.
Singh succeeded Randeep Surjewala, who had been overseeing the MP Congress during the elections.
Despite efforts, the party secured only 66 out of 230 Assembly seats, leading to Singh's replacement alongside former state unit chief Kamal Nath.
It is important to note that prior to Surjewala's appointment, Jai Prakash Agarwal, a senior leader from Delhi, was in charge of the state starting September 2022, a year before the Assembly elections. Agarwal had replaced Mukul Vasnik as the in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Congress.
