New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) expressed its profound condolences to the families impacted by the atrocious attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling on authorities to safeguard economic activities in the area.
CII President Sanjiv Puri stated that this senseless violence targeted innocent individuals, particularly tourists, resulting in significant loss of life and jeopardizing peace and prosperity in the region.
“The safety of our citizens is critical, and terrorist attacks like this must be addressed with the utmost severity. Our nation possesses the strength to manage such crises effectively and ensure that they do not impede livelihoods and economic activities,” declared the top industry association.
In response to the attack, the Kashmir Valley experienced a near-total shutdown, with shops, businesses, public transport, and educational institutions ceasing operations. This shutdown was organized by traders, industrialists, political factions, and religious groups, delivering a powerful message of solidarity and mourning.
The summer season is just beginning, marking a peak time for tourism in the region, which is a vital source of revenue for Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Kashmir.
Puri emphasized, “CII and the Indian Industry stand unified with both state and central governments, along with all stakeholders to collectively resist these threats that undermine the security and welfare of our nation.”
The attack occurred in the picturesque Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, where over two dozen tourists lost their lives when terrorists emerged from the forest and opened fire on defenseless civilians.
A significant search and combing operation is ongoing in and around Baisaran Valley to locate the terrorists behind this heinous act.
Baisaran is a quaint meadow located three to four kilometers from the Pahalgam market, accessible to tourists only by horseback since there is no road for vehicles.
