What Honors Did CJI B.R. Gavai Receive from the Bombay Bar Association?

Mumbai, July 4 (NationPress) On Friday, the Bombay Bar Association honored Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai during a special event held in the city. In his address, the CJI remarked, "This bar association serves as the foundational institution that nurtures intellectuals for the judiciary."

He expressed deep gratitude, stating, "The structure of the Bombay High Court, along with the Bombay Bar Association and my esteemed colleagues, have significantly contributed to my development. My achievements today are largely due to these esteemed institutions. The Bombay Bar Association feels like family to me. Without its support, I would not be where I am today."

CJI Gavai emphasized the importance of the Constitution as our ultimate guiding principle, stating, "Our duty as judges extends beyond merely exercising power; it encompasses fulfilling our responsibilities."

He also pointed out that filling the existing vacancies among judges could help manage the backlog of cases. He noted, "We are committed to enhancing transparency in the appointment process, with several new appointments made recently."

Additionally, he praised the innovative 'Podcast Series' and 'BBA App' introduced by the Bombay Bar Association.

In the very courtroom where he was honored, CJI Gavai recalled the inspiring words of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak: 'Swaraj is my birthright', as he reflected on his journey thus far.

He shared insights from his experiences in various courts, including those in Mumbai, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Goa, and how these professional milestones shaped his judicial perspective.

Justice Dipankar Dutta praised CJI Gavai, describing him as a paragon of legal knowledge and constitutional understanding.

“CJI Gavai's journey, which commenced in a Nagpur court, epitomizes diligence, integrity, and ethical conduct. His time at the Bombay High Court is noted not just for landmark verdicts but also for his composed demeanor, profound legal acumen, and light-hearted humor. His elevation to Chief Justice of India is a proud moment for both the Mumbai Bar and the judges of the Bombay High Court,” he remarked.

In his speech, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Alok Aradhe, proudly acknowledged CJI Gavai's contributions. He noted that public service and the judiciary represent true service, which resonates with Gavai's philosophy.

“His rulings reflect the judiciary's sensitivity and fidelity to the Constitution. He is a visionary whose decisions have bolstered public confidence in the judicial system,” he added.

During the event, Advocate General Birendra Saraf and Additional Solicitor General of India Anil Singh also shared their thoughts.
