Mumbai, July 5 (NationPress) Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai expressed on Saturday that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's persona, as a scholar and expert across diverse fields, was notably multifaceted, embodying roles such as a lawyer, economist, and sociologist.
The CJI highlighted Ambedkar's significant contributions to education, emphasizing that his teaching career was equally valuable and inspiring.
During a ceremony marking the completion of 90 years since Ambedkar's tenure as a professor and principal at the Government Law College, CJI Gavai unveiled a memorial plaque.
On this occasion, he was also honored with a certificate of recognition from the Government Law College.
He remarked: “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was a versatile and multifaceted individual. His exceptional teaching skills, combined with his contributions to various fields, made his teaching career inspiring. While at the Government Law College, he initiated efforts to highlight injustices faced by marginalized communities. His input in the Government of India Act of 1935 was of great significance.”
CJI Gavai noted the prestigious educational legacy of the Government Law College, which has produced numerous eminent jurists. He expressed his appreciation for the college’s various committees and their commendable work.
He also mentioned the pride associated with being a student of the Government Law College and receiving accolades at the institution where Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar taught.
In a separate event organized by the Bombay High Court, CJI Gavai emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adapting to new subjects as students face various challenges.
Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe, along with Justices Dipankar Datta, Prasanna Varale, Ujjwal Bhuyan, Atul Chandurkar, and Tejaswini Gavai, attended the event. He also inaugurated live streaming and Wi-Fi services in the Bombay High Court.
CJI Gavai stated: "It is crucial for everyone to work with passion and integrity in their respective fields. Senior professionals must inspire the next generation with a positive mindset and empower their inherent talents. Additionally, maintaining a balance between work and personal responsibilities is essential. He believes that the modern facilities introduced by the High Court will undoubtedly benefit the citizens."
