Bhopal, June 16 (NationPress) In the ongoing search for suitable candidates for the posts of district and block presidents of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh emphasized that individuals with a clean image and a strong commitment to the party should be prioritized.

Rajya Sabha MP Singh expressed that those who have recently joined the Congress, especially from the ruling BJP, ought to be considered for significant roles rather than leadership positions in the districts and blocks.

"I recommend that Congress members with a clean reputation and the ability to work for the party without fear of BJP retribution should lead at the district and block levels. Recent joiners should be given key responsibilities," Singh stated.

During a media briefing, he noted that numerous Congress officials and members sought his endorsement in the past fortnight, but he has opted to remain neutral and not suggest any names.

"Many Congress workers approached me recently, asking for my support for their candidacies (for district and block presidents). I have clarified that I will not endorse any names. The selection process must remain transparent," Singh responded to inquiries from the press.

This statement comes as over 60 observers appointed by the AICC and Madhya Pradesh Congress travel across the state to identify appropriate candidates for district and block leadership roles.

This initiative is part of the Congress party’s Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign, initiated by former party president and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Bhopal on June 3.

The observers began their visits on June 10 and are expected to finish the first phase of the campaign by June 30.

They will compile reports from discussions with local party leaders, members, and the public, which will inform the selection of new district party chiefs.

The same approach will be applied in future phases within individual Assembly segments, extending down to the gram panchayat and local ward levels, as noted by the Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge, Harish Choudhary.

Point of View

The Congress party's focus on selecting leaders with integrity and dedication reflects a strategic move towards rebuilding its image and ensuring effective governance. This approach could prove vital in restoring public trust and enhancing party dynamics in Madhya Pradesh.
