Water-scarce Rajasthan's long wait for inter-state river agreements may finally be easing — and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma used a public outreach event in Jaitaran, Pali district, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, to make exactly that case before a gathering under the Seva Sanvad Karyakram – Seva Sankalp Yatra campaign.

Decades of stalled water projects, now moving

Rajasthan has historically depended on central mediation to advance its claims on the Yamuna and Narmada river systems. The Kishau multipurpose dam, proposed on the Yamuna river system, is designed to deliver both water supply and hydropower to Rajasthan and neighbouring states — a project whose progress had been repeatedly delayed by inter-state coordination gaps.

Beneficiaries, saplings, and a Jain tribute in Jaitaran

Before his address, the Chief Minister walked through an exhibition of departmental schemes, distributing cheques and tricycles to beneficiaries of various government programmes. He also planted saplings on the premises — a gesture consistent with the campaign's dual emphasis on welfare delivery and environmental stewardship.

The visit carried a solemn dimension as well. CM Sharma paid his respects at the Pawan Dham complex, where he offered naman (reverential salutation) at the samadhi sthal (memorial sites) of Jain saints Rupmuni Ji Maharaj and Mishrilal Ji Maharaj — a moment that underscored the cultural and spiritual fabric of the event's host town.

Seva Sankalp Yatra: governance taken to the districts

The Seva Sankalp Yatra is part of the Rajasthan BJP government's outreach framework, designed to take senior ministers and the Chief Minister directly into districts to communicate scheme benefits and listen to local grievances. The Jaitaran stop placed the campaign in a region acutely aware of water scarcity — making the water-agreement announcements a pointed, locally resonant message for farmers and rural households in the area.

The real test now lies in execution: whether funds flow and physical construction advances on the Kishau dam and the Ramjal Setu will determine whether the agreements translate from diplomatic milestones into taps that actually run.
