Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami of Uttarakhand has approved a series of development fund sanctions on 21 July 2026, covering religious beautification, administrative infrastructure, and rural safety works across three assembly constituencies — Salt in Almora, Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar, and New Tehri in Tehri Garhwal.

The Chief Minister's Office posted on X announcing that ₹1 crore has been sanctioned for the beautification of the Guru Gorakhnath Temple located at Kalzhipa Joshi in the Salt assembly constituency of Almora district. The temple, associated with the Nath yogi tradition, is a site of local religious significance in the Kumaon hill region.

Context

In the same set of approvals, ₹13.50 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a tehsil building in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar. Of this, a first instalment of ₹5.40 crore has been approved for immediate release, enabling ground-level work to commence on the administrative facility.

Rudrapur is the commercial hub of Udham Singh Nagar district and a key node in Uttarakhand's terai belt. A dedicated tehsil building is expected to streamline citizen-facing administrative services in one of the state's more densely populated plains districts.

Policy Backdrop

Uttarakhand has consistently allocated funds for tehsil and sub-divisional administrative buildings since 2018, recognising that many district-level offices operate from ageing or rented structures. Simultaneously, the state has pursued religious tourism infrastructure under its broader push to develop pilgrimage circuits in the Himalayas.

The sanctioning of wildlife barriers and rural connectivity works reflects a standing policy response to human-wildlife conflict — a persistent challenge in both Himalayan and terai villages, where crop damage and property loss from wild animals affect farming communities.

In New Tehri constituency, ₹93.85 lakh has been approved for Gram Panchayat Silkot to construct fencing, nets, a protective wall against wildlife, and a CC railing road from Sonkil Name Tok to a well. A further ₹52.06 lakh has been sanctioned for an RCC Khadinja railing road from the main road to Sari Kemar village, Dabra Pani Tok in Gram Panchayat Kharikhal.

Together, these two New Tehri works total ₹1.45 crore and directly benefit rural panchayat residents who face both wildlife encroachment and poor road connectivity in remote hill terrain. Temple devotees visiting the Guru Gorakhnath site in Almora and residents requiring tehsil services in Rudrapur are the other primary beneficiaries of Tuesday's announcements.
