New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, conducted an inspection of Minto Bridge along with two other areas vulnerable to waterlogging, emphasizing that her team is operating at a rapid pace to prevent the city from being paralyzed by flooding during the monsoon season.

“We are deploying automatic pumps and installing a 2.5-km pipe to eliminate water accumulation beneath the bridge,” said CM Gupta during her inspection, which included Minister Parvesh Verma, who oversees irrigation, flood control, and water management.

While assessing the arrangements for rainwater drainage and pumping systems at the historic Minto Bridge, CM Gupta mentioned that the government is working within a strict timeline and performing proactive checks to “ensure that not a single drop of rainwater” collects during rainstorms.

She highlighted that the previous monsoon saw the area inundated, preventing the pump operator from reaching the site promptly.

“We will guarantee that an operator is available around the clock and activate automatic pumping if the water reaches a specific threshold,” CM Gupta stated.

The CM and Minister Verma also reviewed the measures to combat waterlogging at Ring Road near the WHO office and at Pul Prahladpur near Tughlakabad in southeast Delhi.

At the Minto Bridge, trial operations were carried out using water tankers to ensure that the water drainage channel is unobstructed.

“A comprehensive list of areas susceptible to waterlogging has been compiled, and Minister Parvesh is committed to addressing all of them promptly,” she added.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the government is working tirelessly to prevent waterlogging and traffic congestion during the rainy season.

Minto Bridge serves as a railway underbridge, connecting the central business district of Connaught Place to the Ajmeri Gate area of New Delhi Railway Station.

This location is infamous for waterlogging and has been the subject of numerous news reports over the years, depicting public transport buses stranded in floodwaters that can rise up to 10 feet during heavy rain.

Historically, the successful management of waterlogging at this site during the monsoon has been viewed as a hallmark of efficiency for civic agencies.
