Concern Raised Over Duplicate EPIC Card Numbers for Residents of Bengal and Gujarat

Kolkata, Dec 28 (NationPress) A troubling issue has been highlighted by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, where there have been cases of individuals being assigned identical EPIC card numbers that are linked to residents of other states.

This matter was brought to the attention of the CEO's office by an organization representing migrant workers from West Bengal, who also sent a formal communication regarding this issue on Friday evening.

The IANS conducted a verification and confirmed at least two instances where residents of West Bengal were allocated the same EPIC card numbers as individuals from other states, which is verifiable through the website of the Election Commission of India.

The first instance concerns EPIC number LPZ2746790. This particular EPIC number is assigned to Taslim Mia, a voter from the Gangarampur Assembly constituency and Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

Another individual who has been given the same EPIC number LPZ2746790 is Jignesh Makvana, a voter from the Danilimda Assembly constituency and Ahmedabad West Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat.

The second instance relates to EPIC number LPZ2746576. This EPIC number is assigned to Sahin Alam, a voter from the Gangarampur Assembly constituency and Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

Similarly, the same EPIC number LPZ2746576 has also been allocated to Ayubkhan Pathan, a voter from the Danilimda Assembly constituency and Ahmedabad West Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat.

As of the report's filing, the CEO's office had not issued any statement on this matter.

However, a representative of the association that raised this issue has voiced concerns regarding the developments.

He stated that if such occurrences persist, there is a significant risk of harassment for migrant workers from West Bengal who travel to other states for employment opportunities.
