Concerns Arise Among Delhi Women Voters Regarding Implementation of Mahila Samman Yojana

New Delhi, Dec 25 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made headlines with the launch of two welfare schemes -- the Mahila Samman Yojana and the Sanjeevani Yojana -- with registration processes commencing on December 23. As part of the Mahila Samman Yojana, every woman in Delhi is promised a monthly financial support of Rs 2,100 if AAP secures victory in the forthcoming elections. Despite the initial excitement surrounding the announcement, doubts have arisen among the female electorate in Delhi.
Reports indicate that AAP teams are going door-to-door to assist with registrations. Nevertheless, numerous residents have voiced concerns over the scheme's transparency, suggesting it might be a political tactic aimed at gaining votes as elections approach.
Pushpa Shukla, a local from Kidwai Nagar, shared her disappointment regarding the registration process, stating, “On the first day, I was contacted, but there was no follow-up. The process remains unclear, leaving us in confusion. It feels like a complete scam,” she told IANS.
Pushpa further mentioned that while they had promised to set up camps in the area, no actions have been taken so far.
Vandana, another resident from Kidwai Nagar, expressed similar worries. Although she received a “yellow card” for the scheme, she is uncertain about the next steps. “They didn’t ask for bank details, so how will the money be transferred to us? We are hesitant to share our account information,” she remarked.
While Vandana appreciates the concept, she pointed out the pervasive distrust among the community.
Bhavna, another resident from Kidwai Nagar, questioned the financial sustainability of the scheme. “The cabinet has only sanctioned Rs 1,000 per woman, so how can they promise Rs 2,100? The Delhi government is already grappling with an Rs 8,000-crore deficit,” she stated.
Bhavna labeled the initiative an election gimmick, claiming that similar assurances were made during the Lok Sabha elections but were never realized.
“Promises are made during elections, but once they win, the public is forgotten. They will come back with new promises before the next elections. It’s a recurring theme,” she emphasized.
Numerous women also reminisced about past grievances. Vandana recalled that AAP representatives inquired about how she would utilize the funds.
Several voters alleged that the AAP government has deliberately obstructed the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, denying Delhi residents its advantages.
In a surprising turn, the Delhi government’s own Department of Women and Child Development has distanced itself from the Mahila Samman Yojana, which claims to offer Rs 2,100 monthly to women in the capital.
The department stated that it has not sanctioned anyone to collect personal data from elderly citizens and is not issuing any cards.
The government has clarified that any person or political entity collecting forms under the guise of this scheme is fraudulent and lacks any authority.
