Congress Faces Isolation in Adani Controversy as Trinamool Declines Support for Disruption in Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) The rift within the Opposition is not solely confined to Assembly elections and seat-sharing arrangements. Recent disagreements have emerged between the Congress-led INDIA Bloc and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), one of its major allies, regarding the Adani indictment allegations from the United States.

Breaking away from the Congress party, which is advocating for an urgent debate in Parliament on the Adani matter, the Trinamool has distanced itself and clarified its position – ‘Bengal takes precedence over all issues.’

Abhishek Banerjee, the national secretary of Trinamool, articulated the party’s position to reporters, stating, “Our stance is unequivocal; we prioritize issues concerning Bengal. The people of our state have elected us to advocate for them.”

He emphasized that the Trinamool wishes for the House to operate so that the concerns of the populace can be raised and discussed effectively.

This stance marks a significant shift from the Congress party's approach, which has been criticizing the Central Government over the Adani controversy, both inside and outside Parliament.

Since the Winter Session commenced on November 25, Congress members have persistently submitted adjournment motions in both houses to halt all business in favor of discussing the alleged indictment of the Adani group. Despite the chaos in Parliament, other Opposition parties have also sought discussions on issues like the Sambhal mosque survey and the recent surge in violence in Manipur.

Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee further asserted that Bengal has endured considerable hardship due to the ‘step-motherly’ treatment and that his party supports the functioning of Parliament to urge the Centre for releasing ‘outstanding dues.’

“Bengal has been deprived of outstanding dues for years, with the total now nearing Rs 2 lakh crore. Moreover, GST devolutions have yet to be released. We will focus on issues specific to West Bengal,”

Banerjee stated in response to inquiries about the Opposition's strategy for the Winter Session.

With Trinamool clearly establishing its position and openly expressing its ‘displeasure’ with Congress regarding the issues raised in the House, Congress appears to be left in a state of isolation, unable to unite against the government once again.

Previously, Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar disclosed the party's intentions to hold the BJP accountable.

“We want Parliament to function smoothly. We do not wish to disrupt the House over a single issue. We will hold this government accountable on multiple fronts,”

Trinamool LS MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar informed the media.
