New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) The Congress party has declared the initiation of a significant nationwide campaign titled ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ (Save the Constitution) to protect constitutional values and advance social justice. This move comes in response to escalating worries regarding the alleged exploitation of central agencies, especially the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in light of the ongoing National Herald case.

The party accuses the BJP-led government of weaponizing institutions for political vendetta. They assert that the actions taken in the National Herald case represent a politically motivated “witch-hunt” aimed at Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

In a high-level meeting chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior party members including AICC General Secretaries, state in-charges, and heads of various organizations discussed the execution of the Ahmedabad resolution titled “Nyay Path: Sankalp, Samarpan, Sangharsh.”

This meeting set the stage for the party’s grassroots revival and a nationwide mobilization effort aimed at defending constitutional values.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also introduced the party's latest organizational initiative, ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’, which was recently initiated in Gujarat.

The primary aim of this campaign is to fortify District Congress Committees (DCCs) and invigorate local party factions. As part of this initiative, five observers will be appointed in each district, with new DCC presidents to be elected by May 31. Initially launched in Gujarat, the campaign will soon expand to other states.

After the meeting, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh addressed the ongoing National Herald case, denouncing the BJP’s “malicious propaganda” against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

He characterized the legal proceedings as a politically driven witch-hunt fueled by vengeance, harassment, and intimidation.

Ramesh further stated that from April 21 to 24, senior Congress leaders will conduct press conferences nationwide to unveil what the party perceives as a coordinated assault on democracy and the rule of law.

Additionally, Ramesh announced the broad rollout of the ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ campaign across the nation, which will be executed in four stages: state-level rallies from April 25 to 30, district-level mobilizations from May 3 to 10, assembly constituency-level campaigns from May 11 to 17, and a door-to-door awareness initiative from May 20 to 30 to engage citizens directly on constitutional matters.

He elaborated on the key components of the Ahmedabad resolution, which focuses on three fundamental pillars: social, economic, and political justice. Under social justice, Congress has emphasized three major demands: a nationwide caste census, implementing reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs in private educational institutions, and abolishing the 50 percent cap on reservations.

Regarding economic justice, the party is advocating for a legally guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers based on the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, immediate farm loan waivers, and a focused strategy to revive shuttered MSMEs nationwide.

“The Constitution is under siege. Institutions like the ED are being misused, and those behind this have a criminal mindset,” Ramesh remarked, indirectly targeting top government officials.

He reiterated that Congress would not be cowed and would persist in its struggle for the Constitution, justice, and the soul of the nation.

“This transcends legal issues; it’s about political persecution,” Ramesh affirmed.
