Congress MLA Accuses of Monetary Bribe to Withdraw from Bypolls

Bhopal, Nov 28 (NationPress) Newly elected Congress MLA Mukesh Malhotra on Thursday alleged that he was offered Rs 5 crore to withdraw his nomination papers from the Vijaypur Assembly bypolls.
Malhotra stated that after the AICC declared him as a candidate, a senior police official, who is related to former minister and BJP candidate Ramniwas Rawat, had issued threats of severe repercussions.
"The minister's relative, who is a police official, attempted to bribe me with Rs 5 crore to withdraw my nomination. Upon declining his offer, he threatened me with dire consequences," Malhotra asserted.
The Congress MLA made these allegations during his inaugural visit to the party headquarters in Bhopal on Thursday. Malhotra, who triumphed over six-time former MLA and ex-minister Ramniwas Rawat by a margin exceeding 7000 votes, was warmly welcomed by Congress supporters.
Speaking to the press following a brief welcome ceremony, Malhotra stated that there were attempts made to assault him. "The police and administrative officials were working on behalf of the BJP candidate. They even endeavored to harm me, but I stood resolute in my choice to contest the bypolls," he added.
Since the establishment of the state in 1956, 16 elections have been conducted in the Vijaypur Assembly segment, where Congress has emerged victorious ten times, including this bypoll, while BJP has won six times.
