New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Congress MP Dharamvira Gandhi has publicly criticized the central government, alleging that it is attempting to distract from what he terms as one of the most urgent global issues—the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

In a statement to IANS outside Parliament, Gandhi emphasized the need for the government to focus on the escalating situation in West Asia rather than diverting attention to less critical parliamentary matters.

"The government is attempting to divert attention from the most critical issue facing the world today: the Iran-America-Israel conflict. India has effectively capitulated to the America-Israel alliance and has forsaken its long-time ally, Iran, which has stood by us during crucial moments, including the Indo-Pakistan wars and the formation of Bangladesh, among others," he stated.

Gandhi further asserted, "While Iran and Russia have been trustworthy allies, our Prime Minister Modi has opted for new partnerships with the USA and Israel. Despite the repeated insults from the USA and their attempts to dictate terms—such as unilateral trade agreements without India's approval—they continue to impose restrictions on our population of over 1.4 billion people."

He went on to criticize the NDA government for its apparent silence regarding the latest developments in Iran.

"Moreover, the BJP's silence on the attacks in Iran and the assassination of Khamenei indicates a lack of support for our own people. They appear more interested in discussing the Lok Sabha Speaker issue when the real focus should be on matters concerning Iran," Gandhi remarked to IANS.

The ongoing conflict in West Asia escalated on February 28, following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets. As of Tuesday, this confrontation has now entered its 11th day, raising alarms about potential wider instability in the region.

In related developments, on March 9, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed Parliament that Prime Minister Modi is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia, noting its significance for India, given the substantial number of Indian nationals living and working in the Gulf region.

Jaishankar elaborated that the conflict intensified following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which reportedly inflicted significant damage and resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian officials. He added that tensions have heightened and are spreading across several countries within the region.

The minister also revealed that the Cabinet Committee on Security, led by Prime Minister Modi, has reviewed the situation and evaluated the challenges faced by Indian citizens in the region as well as those traveling through it.

Point of View

It is essential to recognize the gravity of the situation in West Asia. The ongoing conflict poses significant implications for India, especially given its historical ties with Iran and the pressing need for a coherent foreign policy that prioritizes national interests.
