Chandigarh, March 23 (NationPress) Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring raised questions on Sunday about who is truly governing Punjab, addressing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
He inquired, “Is it him or Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is responsible for the arrest of Amritpal Singh and his subsequent transfer to Dibrugarh jail at the direction of the Centre?”
Warring stated that Shah's remarks came shortly after the AAP government’s crackdown on farmers, which left no doubt as to who orchestrated that action.
Responding to the Home Minister's recent comments in Parliament claiming that it was the Central government which had imprisoned Amritpal Singh and his associates in Dibrugarh, Warring remarked: “The Congress has consistently maintained that the Aam Aadmi Party is the B-team of the BJP. This was confirmed when Home Minister Amit Shah stated in Parliament that they (the Central government) had arrested Amritpal Singh, now a elected MP, and sent him along with his associates to Dibrugarh jail.”
“We were under the impression that the Punjab Police executed this. Now we understand at whose command,” he quipped, referencing the Punjab government. Emphasizing that the people of Punjab were already aware that Chief Minister Mann was adhering to the orders of the Union Home Minister, he questioned: “Do we require more evidence that our Chief Minister is following the orders of the Union Home Minister?”
He highlighted that Mann oversees the Punjab Home Ministry. The state Congress President urged Mann to either contradict the Home Minister or risk confirming what the people of Punjab have known for the past three years.
“Ultimately, it’s the dignity and self-respect of the people of Punjab that is jeopardized when their elected government operates under the commands of the Centre,” he added.
