New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) The President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, Devender Yadav, criticized the BJP Government on Friday for jeopardizing the interests of the middle class by permitting private schools to increase their fees without regulation.
He alleged that certain schools had raised fees by as much as 82 percent, emphasizing that during the Congress administration, such arbitrary fee hikes were not permitted.
“Within just one month of taking office, the BJP Government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is permitting private institutions to raise tuition fees at their discretion,” stated the Delhi Congress leader.
Yadav asserted that quality education is a fundamental right for every child, and if reputable private schools are allowed to inflate fees unchecked, only the wealthy would be able to afford these institutions.
The DPCC president urged the BJP Government to ensure that school education is accessible to everyone and to work on enhancing the quality of government schools.
He pointed out that an increasing number of parents are compelled to enroll their children in private schools, despite soaring fees, because the standards in government schools have significantly declined.
The deteriorating quality of education in government schools has led to a mass exodus of students towards private institutions following the pandemic.
He remarked that the Arvind Kejriwal government has focused on constructing classrooms rather than improving the educational standards in government schools.
Yadav noted that during the Congress administration, government schools were highly sought after, resulting in significant demand.
He accused the Rekha Gupta Government of being anti-poor and anti-middle class, as it has allied with private school cartels to permit tuition fees to soar beyond the reach of middle-class families.
