Why is BJP's Virendra Sachdeva Criticizing AAP Over School Fee Hike?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its inconsistent stance regarding a private school in south Delhi, which reportedly did not issue board examination admit cards to certain students.
Sachdeva pointed out that AAP’s Delhi convener Saurabh Bharadwaj protested at APJ School in Saket over the alleged non-issuance of admit cards due to a fee increase. However, he noted that it was the administrations of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi that allowed the school to raise fees during the academic years 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25.
“The AAP leaders are so adept at shifting their political positions that even a chameleon would struggle to match their speed,” stated Sachdeva.
He further demanded clarity from Bharadwaj, questioning whether it is not true that the Kejriwal–Atishi governments permitted APJ School to increase fees by 5% in 2023, followed by a 10% increase in both 2023–24 and 2024–25 — totaling a staggering 25% rise in just two and a half years.
Sachdeva expressed that Bharadwaj, who claims the AAP government took stringent administrative action against APJ School in 2020–21, should clarify that the government only issued a notice to the school.
He noted that the AAP administrations did not impose any punitive measures against the school, instead allowing a 25% fee hike from 2023 to 2025.
Sachdeva asserted that no matter how much Bharadwaj and his fellow AAP leaders try, the public of Delhi will no longer be deceived by grandiose claims regarding advancements in education and health under the AAP regime.
He highlighted issues such as dilapidated government school buildings over five years, granting fee-hike approvals to multiple private institutions including APJ School, and the pathology lab test scam in Mohalla Clinics, all of which have revealed the flaws in the AAP government's educational and health frameworks.
“This is why during today’s protest at APJ School, Bharadwaj could not rally parents or even his party members,” he added.
Earlier, BJP’s Moti Nagar MLA Harish Khurana also criticized AAP leaders for their contradictory statements regarding school fee hikes.
During a press briefing, Khurana noted that ever since the AAP government was ousted from Delhi, its leaders have struggled to accept the people's mandate.
Since 2025, we have seen a robust, honest, and transparent administration under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, which is why AAP has been generating new allegations and controversies daily,” he remarked.
Khurana referred to Bharadwaj’s attempt to stir a new controversy concerning APJ School, but clarified that the issue has been unresolved since 2020.
“It’s well-known which party held power in Delhi during that time. If the situation was truly critical, why was no decisive action taken for five years?” he questioned.
He mentioned ongoing allegations of students’ roll numbers being intentionally withheld.
“I want to clarify that a similar situation arose during the previous administration, and intervention was made to assist the students back then. The difference now is that our government has introduced a law that provides a permanent solution to such situations,” he added.
“The new law enacted by the Delhi Government explicitly states that no student’s roll number may be withheld. Section 13 of the Act ensures that no school can charge extra or unauthorized fees from parents without prior consent, nor can they pressure for fee collection. This legal framework guarantees transparency and accountability through school-level Fee Regulation Committees and an appeal system,” he concluded.
