Mumbai, Feb 24 (NationPress) Amid ongoing turmoil over the horrific murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, the Congress Party is set to conduct a 51 km Sadbhavana Padayatra in Beed District on March 8 aimed at rejuvenating social harmony and brotherhood.

The state Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, following discussions with district leaders, emphasized that Maharashtra is rich in heritage, influenced by great figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Krantisurya Mahatma Phule, and the visionary Babasaheb Ambedkar, among others. The progressive values of Maharashtra have consistently steered the nation forward.

“Nevertheless, the recent times have seen a disruption in the state’s social cohesion. Given Maharashtra’s vibrant culture and traditions, it is crucial to fortify unity and revive the Maharashtra Dharma. To promote harmony, the Congress Party has arranged a Sadbhavana Padayatra from Massajog to Beed on March 8,” he remarked.

He continued: “Sadly, while Maharashtra is proud of its illustrious past, certain individuals are igniting caste-based divisions for personal benefit, which is unfortunate and detrimental to our state’s advancement. Particularly, Beed district has been frequently highlighted in this regard. The area has faced serious gender disparities due to the issue of female foeticide, which remains a significant challenge.”

In honor of International Women’s Day, the Padayatra will kick off from Massajog in Beed district on March 8. The march will include stops at vital spiritual destinations like Bhagwangad and Narayangad, where prayers will be offered for social harmony. The procession will travel through Nandur Phata, Yelamb, Neknur, Manjarsumbha, and Pali, covering a total of 51 kilometers before concluding in Beed city. The event will culminate in a Sadbhavana gathering in Beed, as noted by Sapkal.

“The Sadbhavana Yatra is more than just a political endeavor; it is a social movement aimed at reinstating communal harmony and brotherhood in Maharashtra. In light of the current decline in social unity, it is essential for ordinary citizens, youth, women, students, social workers, writers, journalists, and representatives of community organizations to engage in this movement,” he added, mentioning that similar Sadbhavana Yatras will be organized in Parbhani and other regions shortly.

Additionally, he stated that the meeting held today with district unit heads was focused on organizational tactics and future political strategies. A meeting of the state office-bearers of the Congress is also set to take place on February 25.
