Bhopal, May 1 (NationPress) The Congress party in Madhya Pradesh is gearing up to initiate a campaign focused on the caste census this June, with the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also set to make an appearance, as announced by the state party chief, Jitu Patwari, during a press briefing.

Patwari stated that the recent decision by the Centre to include caste enumeration in the forthcoming general census is a significant victory stemming from Rahul Gandhi's persistent advocacy over the past decade.

“The announcement regarding the caste census is a testament to Rahul Gandhi's relentless efforts. He has championed this cause for the last ten years. Our state-wide campaign in June will feature a public rally with Rahul Gandhi leading the charge,” Patwari emphasized during his address at the Congress headquarters in Bhopal.

Furthermore, Patwari took aim at the Union government, highlighting the irony that while Rahul Gandhi was advocating for the caste census, BJP leaders were labeling him as ‘anti-national’, yet they are now claiming credit for the initiative.

Rahul Gandhi has consistently challenged the BJP on various fronts, which has compelled the Union government to announce the inclusion of caste enumeration in the upcoming census. However, this marks just the beginning; Rahul Gandhi and the Congress will continue to advocate for the rights of the people,” Patwari asserted.

On Wednesday, Union Minister Aswini Vaishnav declared that the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) has given the green light for the caste enumeration in the upcoming census, indicating a pivotal change in policy.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the media in Bhopal, labeling this move as a historic stride toward inclusive governance.

Chouhan stated that the initiative is designed to promote ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Kalyan’ (Together with all, development for all, welfare of all) and is not intended to foster caste-based politics.

He also criticized the Congress party, accusing them of “opportunism” and “hypocrisy” regarding the caste census issue.

“When in power, Congress did nothing. Now that they are in opposition, they are demanding the caste census. This is typical Congress behavior - saying one thing while doing another,” he claimed.

Point of View

It's crucial to recognize the significance of the caste census in contemporary Indian discourse. The Congress party's campaign, led by Rahul Gandhi, reflects an ongoing struggle for representation and rights among various communities. While the Union government has made strides towards inclusivity, the political landscape remains charged with accusations and counterclaims. It's essential to monitor how these developments unfold and their impact on the electorate.
