Mumbai, April 14 (NationPress) - The president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, Harshwardhan Sapkal, voiced his alarm on Tuesday regarding the tragic deaths of two MBA students, which are suspected to be linked to drug overdoses following a music event on April 11.

Sapkal accused the BJP-Mahayuti government of enabling a thriving illegal drug trade, asserting that they are endangering the youth of Maharashtra by facilitating drug use.

He pointed out that during a live music concert at the NESCO complex in Goregaon, substances like alcohol and drugs were being consumed openly.

According to him, the police and government authorities did not take action until the two fatalities occurred, and only then did they begin to show a semblance of enforcement.

“How could the police overlook a drug party with 4,000-5,000 young attendees in one area of Mumbai?” he questioned.

Sapkal further claimed that such drug and alcohol gatherings are happening right under the watch of the Mumbai Police and government entities, indicating a significant failure of the Home Department and the entire governance system.

He attributed the issue to the negligent administration of the BJP–Mahayuti government, which he believes is leading the educated youth of Maharashtra into drug dependency.

He cited a recent incident where a drug manufacturing facility was discovered on a relative's farm of a Deputy Chief Minister, only for the case to be dismissed with minimal action.

Sapkal described it as deeply concerning that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis allegedly cleared individuals involved in these matters.

“Cases from Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Solapur have already revealed the rampant drug trade in the state, yet the government remains unresponsive. Whether it’s the drug mafia Lalit Patil, the Nashik drug case, or the Satara drug factory, these incidents seem to involve connections to influential government figures. How many more tragedies must occur before the Fadnavis government takes action instead of issuing clean chits?” he demanded.

He also sought clarification on who authorized such a large gathering of 4,000-5,000 young people for the music event, questioning whom the government and police are serving.

Sapkal alleged that the system across Maharashtra appears solely concerned with collecting bribes and extorting money from the public through legal exploitation.

He asserted that while Devendra Fadnavis makes grandiose statements, he lacks the capability to manage not just the Home Department but the state overall.

Sapkal insisted that if Fadnavis is unfit for the role, he should resign rather than jeopardize Maharashtra's future.
