Counting of Votes for the Tirhut Graduate MLC Bye-Election Commences in Bihar

Patna, Dec 9 (NationPress) The bye-election for the Tirhut Graduate Constituency of the Bihar Legislative Council has garnered notable attention due to the intense political competition and its potential impact on local governance.

With the counting process taking place at MIT College in Muzaffarpur, results are anticipated to be declared by evening, providing clarity to this triangular contest.

The MLC bye-election for the Tirhut Graduate Constituency was conducted on December 5 and saw a voter turnout of 47.50 percent.

Voting occurred across 89 polling centres and 106 sub-polling centres.

A total of 1,54,828 graduate voters from Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar districts were eligible to cast their votes, comprising 107,401 male and 47,419 female voters, with their choices determining the fate of 18 candidates.

The seat became vacant following the election of Devesh Chandra Thakur to the Lok Sabha from Sitamarhi, leading to the necessity of this bye-election.

This bye-election features a triangular contest with candidates from JD(U) - Abhishek Kumar Jha, RJD candidate Gopi Kishan, and the Jan Suraaj Party candidate Dr. Vinayak Gautam.

Rakesh Raushan, a rebel candidate from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), also participated as an Independent candidate.

Abhishek Jha, the candidate from JD(U), represents the Brahmin community and his party has held this seat for the past 22 years.

The RJD has nominated Gopi Kishan, who represents the Vaishya community.

The Jan Suraaj Party has awarded a ticket to Dr. Vinayak Gautam, representing the Bhumihar community and coming from a politically influential family.

His father, Ramkumar Singh, and grandfather, Raghunath Pandey, have both held significant political roles, enhancing his candidacy.

This election is being closely observed as it acts as a barometer for the sway of major political coalitions and rising parties in the region in anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The counting procedure utilizes 20 tables, ensuring a smooth and transparent results declaration.
