Bihar Education Minister: Loss in Tirhut Bypolls Doesn't Indicate Teachers' Discontent

Patna, Dec 12 (NationPress) Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar stated on Thursday that the NDA candidate's defeat in the Tirhut Graduate Legislative Council election should not be interpreted as a sign of dissatisfaction among teachers in Bihar.
The Minister emphasized that the loss of NDA's Abhishek Kumar Jha should not be perceived as evidence of alleged discontent among educators towards the Nitish Kumar government.
"NDA has secured victories in four Assembly by-elections, and this solitary loss does not represent a broader trend. The party will conduct a review to comprehend the reasons behind the defeat in Tirhut," he stated.
Jha was defeated by teachers' leader Banshidhar Brajwasi, who had previously been dismissed by then Education Department Additional Chief Secretary K. K. Pathak.
"If the party's strategy or leadership is credited for the Assembly by-election victories, it is contradictory to attribute this loss solely to one reason, such as dissatisfaction regarding Brajwasi's dismissal," Minister Kumar defended.
The Minister reiterated the party's position and strategies, assuring supporters that one defeat does not indicate a larger trend.
Brajwasi, running as an independent candidate, maintained a significant lead throughout the counting process and won the by-election by approximately 12,000 votes.
Vinayak Gautam of Jan Suraaj finished second, while RJD's Gopi Kishan and JD-U's Abhishek Kumar Jha took third and fourth places, respectively.
Earlier, Brajwasi asserted that his prior conflict with Pathak and subsequent suspension rallied support among teachers.
During his campaign, he claimed that teachers were unhappy with specific administrative decisions.
Following his victory, Brajwasi stressed that his candidacy emerged from the "collective anger of teachers over government actions".
The by-election was prompted by JD(U)'s Deveshchandra Thakur vacating the Tirhut Graduate seat after being elected as an MP in the Lok Sabha elections.
