New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) A Special NIA court has imposed sentences on three members of the banned Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) terrorist group, ranging from life imprisonment to 30 years, in relation to a conspiracy to secede Kashmir that surfaced in 2018, as confirmed by an official on Tuesday.
Dukhtaran-e-Millat, an all-female organization, aims to achieve the separation of Kashmir from India, according to a statement from the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Aasiya Andrabi, also known as Aasiyeh Andrabi or Syedah Aasiya, the founder and leader of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, has been sentenced to life imprisonment, the statement detailed.
Meanwhile, Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen received 30-year prison sentences each, along with monetary penalties, the statement added.
All three women were detained by the NIA in July 2018, following a suo motu case (RC-17/2018/NIA/DLI) registered in April 2018, as per the official statement.
The defendants, all originally from Kashmir, were found guilty in January 2026 by the Karkardooma trial court in Delhi under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 18, 38, 39, 153A, 153B, 120B, 121A, and 505.
The court determined that the three individuals played significant roles in operating the DeM to advocate for the separation of Jammu & Kashmir from India, according to the NIA.
According to the judgment issued by the Special NIA Court on Tuesday, Aasiya has been sentenced under different IPC and UA(P) Act sections, resulting in the maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine totaling Rs 8 lakh, as reported by the agency.
Aasiya was previously married to Ashiq Hussain Faktoo, a terrorist affiliated with the banned Hizbul Mujahideen organization, who is currently serving life imprisonment for the murder of H.N. Wanchoo, a noted human rights activist, the report stated.
Aasiya is also implicated in 32 other FIRs filed at various police stations across Jammu & Kashmir, as noted by the NIA.
Nahida Nasreen, serving as the General Secretary of DeM, and Sofi Fehmeeda, who acts as the Press Secretary for the group, have also been convicted and given concurrent sentences under various IPC and UA(P) Act provisions, each receiving a maximum of 30 years of Simple Imprisonment and a total fine of Rs 7 lakh, the NIA reported.
While Sofi Fehmeeda faces eight additional cases against her, Nahida Nasreen has four, according to the anti-terror agency.
All three had been chargesheeted by the NIA in November 2018 after a thorough investigation of incriminating evidence, including social media communications, videos, and interviews, the agency stated.
The investigation established the convicts' involvement in promoting and supporting DeM’s terrorist and secessionist agendas, the report indicated.
The NIA's inquiry further disclosed that the accused utilized various social media platforms and public forums to incite violence, hatred, and jihad, with the objective of detaching J&K from India, thereby jeopardizing the nation's integrity, security, and sovereignty.
