Patna, May 31 (NationPress) Covid-19 seems to be making a comeback in Bihar’s capital, Patna, as seven new infections have been recorded in the past 24 hours, sparking worries about a possible resurgence of the virus in urban settings.
Among the individuals who tested positive is a medical intern from Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), who was actively undergoing training at the facility.
According to an official from the Patna Civil Surgeon’s office, of the new cases, three were identified at NMCH, while the remaining four were confirmed through two private laboratories.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh reported that 26 suspected patients were tested at NMCH on Friday, leading to three confirmed positive results.
The other positive cases were traced back to Kankarbagh, Agamkuan, and RPS Mor, suggesting that the infection is beginning to proliferate in urban environments.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Head of the Microbiology Department at NMCH, stated, “One patient visited the Ophthalmology Department, another was in the Surgery Department, and the third was treated in the Medicine Department. All infected individuals are under home isolation, as their symptoms are reported to be mild.”
Currently, there are 17 active Covid-19 cases confirmed in Patna district, including 5 at AIIMS Patna, 6 at NMCH, and another 6 from private labs and hospitals.
In light of this developing situation, the Bihar Health Department has announced a statewide oxygen mock drill scheduled for Saturday, in accordance with guidelines from the central government.
The purpose of the mock drill is to assess the readiness of the oxygen supply system, which includes evaluating the functionality of PSA oxygen generation plants in government hospitals, ensuring the availability of oxygen cylinders and backup supplies, auditing oxygen pipelines, and checking ICU beds along with emergency preparedness among medical staff.
“We are ramping up our efforts to guarantee a steady oxygen supply and emergency readiness should a new wave of Covid-19 emerge,” said a senior health department official.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and adhere to Covid-appropriate protocols, particularly in healthcare environments and densely populated urban locales.
