Is the CPI-M Government Undermining the Kerala Police? K.C. Venugopal Claims So!
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 16 (NationPress) AICC General Secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal accused the CPI-M government of favoring individuals who resort to violence and looting in Kerala. He emphasized that police personnel tasked with maintaining law and order are facing attacks, while the government allegedly shields DYFI activists who assaulted an officer in the presence of his family.
“This behavior severely undermines the morale of the police force. Officers are finding it challenging to uphold the law without bias,” he remarked.
Venugopal pointed out that individuals responsible for political murders on behalf of CPI-M are granted a privileged status even while incarcerated.
“The Vijayan government fails to recognize them as murderers. There is no interest in upholding the rule of law. This approach is steering the state towards chaos,” he alleged.
He further noted that the current administration has generated significant disillusionment among those who traditionally lean left.
Those expressing dissenting views are struggling to remain within the Left framework.
In response to queries about film actor Premkumar, Venugopal expressed that the Congress would warmly receive individuals departing from the Left under such pressing circumstances.
Addressing comments from Mani Shankar Aiyar, he clarified that Aiyar has not been involved with Congress for a significant time, and his remarks reflect personal viewpoints.
The official stance of the party, he noted, has been articulated by the AICC Communications Department.
On the subject of the agrarian crisis, Venugopal mentioned media reports indicating that a farmer, who had received the “Karshaka Sree” award, tragically ended his life due to distress from not receiving timely government payments.
“The plight of farmers in Kerala is alarming,” he stated, mentioning his direct interactions with paddy farmers in Palakkad, which revealed the significant challenges they endure.
He claimed that the Pinarayi government has slashed the assistance farmers used to receive during Oommen Chandy's administration, including central subsidies.
He further indicated that the Centre has now mandated the cessation of the Rs 6.31 additional state bonus.
For farmers already ensnared in debt, this decision effectively plunges them deeper into despair.
