Critical Health Status of Jnanpith Laureate M. T. Vasudevan Nair

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 22 (NationPress) The health status of the esteemed Malayalam author and Jnanpith laureate M. T. Vasudevan Nair, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode, remains critical.
According to sources from the hospital, while Nair has shown some response to the medication, his overall status is still serious.
He is being treated in the emergency ward of Baby Memorial Hospital for cardiac issues.
Hospital officials have reported a slight improvement in his condition, with Nair exhibiting limited response to the ongoing treatment. However, a medical bulletin released by the hospital has stressed that his health remains critical.
Numerous distinguished individuals have been visiting the hospital to inquire about the well-being of this highly revered literary figure.
Nair, who has also received the Padma Bhushan, is recognized as a luminary in Malayalam literature and cinema.
He has achieved four National Film Awards for his screenplay writing and has directed seven films while scripting around 54 others.
His screenplays, now published in book format, are regarded as essential reading for budding filmmakers.
Throughout his career, Nair has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award, Ezhuthachan Award, Mathrubhumi Literary Award, and the O.N.V. Literary Award.
In 2013, he received the J.C. Daniel Award for lifetime achievement in Malayalam cinema. In 2022, he was awarded the inaugural Kerala Jyothi Award, the highest civilian honor given by the Kerala Government.
In 1995, Nair was bestowed with the Jnanpith, India's premier literary accolade, for his remarkable contributions to literature.
He has also held the position of editor at Mathrubhumi Weekly for a number of years.
In October of this year, Nair made headlines when gold ornaments were stolen from his home while he and his wife were away. The police later recovered the stolen items, implicating a domestic helper in the incident.
