Kozhikode, Dec 21 (NationPress) The revered Malayalam literary figure M. T. Vasudevan Nair, who is currently being treated for respiratory and cardiac complications at a private hospital, continues to be in a serious condition as of Saturday.

According to a medical bulletin released by the hospital, Nair has begun to show some response to the treatment but remains in critical condition.

The hospital has established a medical board comprising a team of specialists to meticulously monitor the health of the 91-year-old Jnanpith awardee.

A significant number of notable figures have been visiting the hospital to inquire about the health of this highly respected literary icon.

Nair, a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, has profoundly influenced Malayalam literature and cinema.

He has received four National Film Awards for his screenplays and has directed seven films while penning around 54 scripts. His screenplays, now published in book format, are considered essential for aspiring filmmakers.

Throughout his career, Nair has been recognized with various prestigious awards, including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award, Ezhuthachan Award, Mathrubhumi Literary Award, and O.N.V. Literary Award.

In 2013, he was honored with the J.C. Daniel Award for his lifetime achievements in Malayalam cinema. In 2022, he was the inaugural recipient of the Kerala Jyothi Award, the highest civilian honor awarded by the Kerala Government.

Nair received the Jnanpith, India's most prestigious literary award, in 1995 for his exceptional contributions to literature. He also served as the editor of Mathrubhumi Illustrated Weekly for several years.

In October of this year, Nair garnered media attention after gold ornaments were stolen from his home while he and his wife were away. The police subsequently recovered the stolen items, implicating a domestic helper.
