Kolkata, April 7 (NationPress) - The BJP candidate for the Maynaguri Assembly seat in Jalpaiguri district, Dalim Roy, faced an injury during his campaign activities on Monday evening, as reported by the party on Tuesday.

It was reported that he unexpectedly sustained a serious head injury while campaigning on Monday afternoon. He was quickly transported to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

The BJP stated that Dalim Roy was engaged in campaign activities near the Maynaguri station intersection when the incident occurred. As he was entering a shop, he struck his head against the shop's tin roof, leading to a significant cut on his forehead and resulting in bleeding.

Supporters and party workers immediately took him to the Maynaguri rural hospital, where he received initial treatment.

BJP Jalpaiguri district committee member Chanchal Sarkar explained, "We were concluding our campaign for the day at the station intersection. Dalim was interacting with the public at a pharmacy when he accidentally hit his head on the low tin roof of the verandah, causing deep cuts and bleeding. Subsequently, he was taken to the Maynaguri Rural Hospital for care."

The BJP candidate has been advised to rest for a few days; however, party officials have indicated that he will resume campaigning soon. Later that day, Roy met with numerous party workers and leaders. The Maynaguri constituency is set to vote in the first phase on April 23.

It is important to note that amidst the competition for the BJP ticket for Maynaguri, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar announced Dalim Roy as the party’s official candidate, thus clarifying any confusion regarding the nomination. Controversy arose when the BJP substituted Kaushik Roy, who was earlier named as the candidate, with Dalim Roy after protests from party members.
