Kolkata, March 5 (NationPress) Tanushree Chattopadhyay, the mother of dancer and event management expert Sutandra Chattopadhyay, who tragically lost her life last month in an accident while reportedly fleeing from intoxicated youths, has approached a single-judge Bench of the Calcutta High Court seeking a thorough investigation by the authorities.

The petition was accepted by Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, and it is anticipated that the case will be heard within the week.

On the early hours of February 24, Sutandra passed away on the National Highway in Panagarh, situated in the West Burdwan district, after the driver of the vehicle she was in accelerated and swerved to evade a group of drunken individuals pursuing them in another car.

Despite statements from Sutandra's fellow passengers to both the police and media, investigators asserted that the accident resulted from an attempt to overtake, which caused the driver to lose control.

The victim’s mother has consistently argued that the police are attempting to protect the intoxicated youths, likely due to their influential status.

Now, she has turned to the Calcutta High Court in pursuit of a fair investigation to ensure her daughter receives justice.

In her plea, she stated that her daughter's death was essentially a murder, asserting that the individuals pursuing them, including the driver of the chasing vehicle, were intoxicated and uttering inappropriate remarks about her.

“There is a mystery surrounding her death. This is not merely an accident. This is a case of virtual murder,” the victim’s mother expressed.

On February 27, nearly 72 hours after the incident, police apprehended Babul Yama, the owner and driver of the pursuing vehicle, who is a businessman dealing in automobile spare parts.

He has a criminal history, having been arrested in February 2024 by police at Budbud Police Station in West Burdwan related to a case involving smuggled automobile spare parts, although he was soon released on bail.
